Project Overview

The U.S. military often has a wide variety of options for infrastructure development (e.g., hospitals, schools, etc.), and selecting a portfolio of projects is a critical task for ensuring post-conflict stability. The PTL is developing formal methods for simulating, evaluating, and selecting optimized infrastructure portfolios [1][2]. For example, we have modeled the city of Jalalabad, Afghanistan, a map of which is shown below:

We have simulated the development and operation of healthcare and water infrastructure in this area, and have developed methods to optimize various non-economic factors on the basis of such development. An example simulation setup is shown below:
